We now begin the third of 5 books of the Torah. Hear about its focus in relation to the other books. This parsha is about sacrifices — what they are, who brings them, what happens to the sacrifices. Different animals, birds, and flour; different reasons for bringing them.
Today is the fast of Esther. I am fasting right now, and praying for the safety and restoration of my people, as Esther did, and the reversal of all edicts against us. Next week (Sunday for most people, Monday in Jerusalem) will be the holiday of Purim — with its costumes, drunken revelry, giving gifts of prepared foods to friends, giving money to the poor, and hearing the Megillah read twice. The second half of this podcast is my summary and background of the Megilat Esther.
At 5:30 Israel time, or just after half an hour from when this is sent, recite the Shma in unity with all the Jewish people. Pray for the return of our hostages, the safety of our people, unity and peace.
