VeZot haBracha: And This is the Blessing!

Chazak! Chazak! Venit'chazek!

This is the last parsha in the Torah! And the last week of this parsha series.

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey. It has been magical. It’s nice to end the Torah on a positive note — Moshe blesses the people, each tribe (except one) gets good things said about it. And then Moshe dies, and nobody knows where he’s buried.

What was the parsha when you were born? What does that say about you? Look it up on this handy birthday calculator, then look into your birth parsha, and let me know what you think!

May we be written and sealed in the good book. Now that we’ve completed the Torah, it’s time to begin again. Go and study! May your learnings always be fruitful.

Tonight begins the holiday of Simchat Torah. This year it is a mixed blessing, with the first yahrzeit (death anniversary) of over a thousand people. And the unknown fate of over a hundred hostages, as well as for Israel, and all the countries of the earth, hanging in the balance. It may seem difficult that right now is zman simchateinu — the time of our joy! But crying at weddings and laughing at funerals seem to be part of the full spectrum of life. So, let’s celebrate and mourn, acknowledge endings and beginnings, and recognize that the circle of life continues.

And this is the blessing.
